Guinea Reginald “Gooey” Pig
2006-2013
Guinea Reginald “Gooey” Pig, 7 years, 6 months, formerly of
Marblehead, MA, residing in Beaufort, SC, passed on to a better world full of
basil on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at his summer home in Vassalboro, ME,
of natural causes and a little help from his vet.
Born in Connecticut on March 5, 2006, as a young pig Guinea
traveled to Marblehead where he settled with his first family member, Oliver Riegle,
for a short time before moving in with his life long companion, Robin Robinson,
formerly of Marblehead, MA but residing in Beaufort, SC, and summering in
Vassalboro, ME.
Guinea graduated from Robin’s Etiquette School for Rodents,
an accomplished scholar in not biting the hand that feeds you, eating
everything someone offers you, and sharing cage space with cats. He recently
retired from his position as chief grass eater, a job he flourished in and had
ardent passion for. He was still maintaining his secondary occupation, pooping,
right up until the day of his death.
Guinea
was a well traveled pig, liked visiting other guineas and cats, and was at home
where ever he went. He lived in four different states, and visited friends up
and down the east coast, including various trips to Marblehead, Washington, DC,
Germantown, MD, and Newbury, SC.
Guinea
enjoyed spending time outdoors, sleeping on Robin’s chest, and running free
during floor time. His favorite foods were basil, basil and basil, and timothy
hay, apples, carrots, string beans, and collard greens. And grass. And
watermelon. And lettuce of all kinds.
He
was known for being able to eat a stalk of parsley from stem to stern without
taking a break, taking it in through his little guinea mouth like a wood
chipper devours an oak tree. He liked to squeak, chirp, and growl – and his
favorite saying was “You’re not the boss of me.” His second favorite saying was
“Feed me now.”
Guinea is survived by his grandmother, Erma Robinson, of
Vassalboro, ME, companion Robin Robinson, formerly of Marblehead, MA now
residing in Beaufort, SC, and summering in Vassalboro, ME; his Maine cousins,
Princess Robinson Cat and Admiral Robinson Cat, and many admiring friends and fans. Guinea never
married nor had any children, preferring the life of bachelorhood and not
having to share all the basil he could eat. Guinea is predeceased by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond
Guinea Pig of Connecticut, and dozens of siblings, and his sidekick for two
years, Bubba "The Roamer" Cat. Guinea had no
pets, but he always wanted a turtle.
A private service will be held later today in the backyard
of his loving grandmother, interment between his two favorite peony bushes will
follow directly after. A small reception featuring carrots, collard greens, and
basil will be held on the deck immediately following interment. Mr. Guinea has
asked that donations be sent to Feed the Homeless Pigs, or Organic Basil
Growers of America in lieu of basil bouquets.
May he rest in eternal basily peace.
